Health Status

Background

The World Health Organization (1948) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Thus health encompasses a broad spectrum of dimensions and is impacted by a multitude of different factors, some inherent and other external to the individual.

Health Indicators - Objective and Subjective

Different health status measures are used in the literature, from subjective measures (self-assessed health) to more objective measures of health (biological markers).
